BCIU Hosts Collaborative Conversations on Education Meeting with Local Legislators

On Friday, April 21, 2023, the Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) hosted “Collaborative Conversations on Education,” bringing together state legislators and superintendents, career and technology directors, and business office administrators from Berks County school districts to share information and connect on legislative issues impacting education and student success. Legislators attending this important meeting with school leaders included:

  • Senator Judy Schwank
  • Representative David Zimmerman
  • Representative Jamie Barton
  • Representative Johanny Cepeda-FreytizStaff from the offices of Senator Katie MuthSenator Scott MartinSenator Chris Gebhard, andRepresentative Mark Gillen also joined the group.

The meeting was facilitated by BCIU Executive Director Dr. Jill Hackman and included an informative introductory session during which Dr. Greg Miller, Fleetwood Area School District Superintendent; Mr. Andrew Potteiger, Brandywine Heights Area School District Superintendent; and Dr. Michelle Reichard-Huff, BCIU Office of Early Childhood and Student Services Director presented background information and key data points on education priorities. After the opening session, legislators provided remarks and updates from Harrisburg and shared ways we can assist them in their efforts.

The Collaborative Conversations on Education event provided a valuable opportunity to network with our legislators to assist with our advocacy efforts. School leaders remain committed to collaboration and strengthening relationships with our legislators so that we continue to be a trusted resource regarding education matters.
