Student Events and Competitions

The Berks County Intermediate Unit and its community partners host a variety of events and competitions throughout the year, providing enrichment in the arts, science, engineering, and more. 

Academic Challenge

Berks County’s public high schools compete in four Pennsylvania Academic Competition matches each year from November through March. The format is a fast-paced recall of academic material. The winning team represents Berks County in the final academic competition, held each spring at the State Capitol in Harrisburg.

Berks County Secondary Art Show

The High School Art Exhibit is the final art show of each year for students attending Berks County’s 18 public and one parochial high school, the Reading Muhlenberg Career & Technology Center, and the Berks Career & Technology Center. Students showcase their talent in a wide range of visual arts media.

PA Media and Design Competition

The PA Media and Design Competition is an annual event that highlights Pennsylvania students’ application skills, creativity and knowledge. Students are able to unleash their creativity, learn how to convey information more dynamically, and enhance the learning process.

The Berks County Intermediate Unit hosts the regional contest for Berks County middle school and high school students. Winners of the regional competition go on to compete in the State Competition, held annually in May at Dickinson College.

Berks County Reading Olympics

The Berks County Reading Olympics is a countywide reading event that encourages students to increase the quality and quantity of books they read for enjoyment. This program is based upon research which shows that good reading habits form the foundation for a productive and successful life.

eading Olympics is designed to inspire students to read for pleasure and learn the value of teamwork at the same time! In addition to helping students develop a habit of daily reading for pleasure, the Berks County Reading Olympics provides students with the opportunity to have interactive discussions with their peers on the content of the books.
