BCIU Health and Safety Plan: August 20, 2021

The Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) Board of Directors approved the BCIU Health and Safety Plan, effective July 1, 2021, on June 17, 2021.  Due to the dynamic nature of COVID-19, the BCIU Health and Safety Plan is subject to change as needed throughout the 2021-2022 school year.  Subsequently, essential revisions made to the plan were approved by the BCIU Board of Directors on August 19, 2021.
The plan outlines the BCIU’s strategy in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic in a collaborative approach and is based on information regarding plans identified by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The full plan can be viewed by clicking here.

About the Berks County Intermediate Unit

The Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) employs more than 1,200 staff members and has operating budgets in excess of $165 million. It is governed by an 18-member board of directors composed of a representative from each of the public school districts of Berks County.

The BCIU has no administrative or supervisory functions in local school districts but exists to provide services and programs that might not be economical or practical for districts to provide themselves. As a growing educational service agency, the Berks County Intermediate Unit is called upon to address constantly increasing needs in areas such as special education and federal, state, and local initiatives. These challenges can best be met through the combined efforts of schools, government agencies, and community organizations. The BCIU is committed to becoming the first resource Berks County schools turn to for assistance, guidance, and support.
