The Berks County Intermediate Unit is governed by a Board of Directors and is led by an Executive Director and five Office Directors. The Board of Directors is comprised of representatives from all 18 school districts in Berks County.
The five directors lead their respective offices at the direction of the Executive Director. The five offices are Business Services, Early Childhood and Student Services, Human Resource, Information Technology, and Professional Development and Curriculum.
The Office of Business Services & Operations directs the financial operation of the BCIU and provides business administration consulting services to school districts and nonprofit organizations. In addition, the office provides accounting, budgeting, audit, payroll, and support services to all BCIU departments. The office offers these services and others to an expanding list of clients and partners.
The Office of Early Childhood and Student Services administers all direct service programs to children and students. Programs include Head Start, Preschool Early Intervention, Pre-K Counts, Alternative Education, Special Education, social services, and other student and family programs and services.
The Human Resources staff assist in the negotiation of collective bargaining agreements with three employee unions, as well as compensation and benefits packages for a number of non-unionized employee groups.
The Office of Human Resources coordinates a number of endeavors intended to benefit the Berks County community as a whole, including programs that benefit the United Way of Berks County.
The Office of Information Technology supports the core technology and operational requirements of the Berks County Intermediate Unit’s approximately 100 programs by insuring that staff members and programs have the necessary access to information, applications, and supporting technology.
The Office of Professional Development and Curriculum directs and coordinates all professional development activities for early childhood and school personnel. The predominant focus of this office is on curriculum, instruction, assessment, and the use of data.
The Executive Director provides leadership and administers the overall operation of the BCIU in accordance with the policies of the BCIU Board of Directors, the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the regulations of the State Board of Education to include working with the Board, staff, schools, and the community to develop effective and efficient programs and services. Working with the BCIU Leadership Team, the Executive Director provides strategic leadership, direction, and oversight toward the achievement of the BCIU goals, objectives, and mission.
