The Berks County Head Start Program serves 695 children in 40 classrooms located at 17 sites around the County. This program is designed to bring about a greater degree of social competence and to prepare children of low-income families for kindergarten.
Head Start is operated primarily through federal funds with state supplemental funds to support five classrooms. Children, ages three to five, attend classes approximately four hours per day, four days per week during the school year.
