On June 19, 2026, the BCIU’s Education Leading to Employment and Career Training (ELECT) Pregnant & Parenting Teen Services Program, in partnership with Safe Kids AAA, hosted a Community Resource Fair and Car Seat Safety Check at the BCIU Education Centre. The event connected ELECT participants, local families, and community members with valuable resources and support services.
Representatives from 22 community–based organizations provided information on health care, early childhood education, family support, housing assistance, nutrition, behavioral health, and literacy services. Participating partners included: Reading Public Library, United Way of Berks County, The Doula Concierge, Berks Community Action Program Family Center, Mary’s Shelter, Early Learning Resource Center, Helping Harvest, SAM, Inc. Birth to 3 Early Intervention, BCIU Early Intervention, Parents as Teachers, Nurse-Family Partnership, WIC Maternal and Family Health Services, Connections Work, Springfield Behavioral, Education for Children and Youth Experiencing Homelessness (ECYEH), Easterseals, Highway Safety Patrol, and AAA.
A special feature of the event was the free Car Seat Safety Check, conducted by certified Safe Kids AAA technicians. More than 30 car seat inspections were completed, giving caregivers personalized guidance on proper car seat installation and child passenger safety.
The event demonstrated the power of community partnerships in supporting children and families throughout Berks County. Through initiatives like this, the ELECT Pregnant & Parenting Teen Services Program continues to empower pregnant and parenting teens by connecting them with the resources, services, and support networks needed to achieve their educational goals and build strong futures for themselves and their families.
