On Tuesday, June 2, 2026, the BCIU Leadership Team met at Reading Regional Airport (RDG) for its annual strategic work session. The session provided dedicated time to reflect, connect, and align on priorities for the 2026–2027 school year, guided by the framework Connect with Purpose, Collaborate with Impact, and Advance Together, with a continued focus on how service shows up every day.
The day began with operational updates, including safety and security, facilities, technology, and a financial overview. These updates set the stage for forward-focused planning and reinforced alignment between organizational goals, resource allocation, and long-term sustainability.
Leadership then engaged in strategic discussions focused on the Start of the Year | State of the Unit experience and supervisors’ meetings, emphasizing clear communication, strong alignment, and meaningful engagement for staff across the organization. The session also addressed 2026–2027 office priorities, highlighting areas where collaboration across offices is essential and reinforcing the importance of coordinated planning and shared accountability.
A brief update introduced a communication campaign to support Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) accessibility practices in the coming year designed to provide staff with visible, practical, and consistent support in applying accessibility practices in their daily work.
The team also revisited its Fostering a Culture of Belonging work at a high level and asked to provide recommended actions for 2026–2027 to further strengthen engagement and organizational alignment.
Participants also reviewed supplemental materials to support planning and communication for the upcoming year and were provided with an article, Brilliant Moves: Coffee with United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby to reflect on key insights related to culture, communication, and accountability, and consider how those ideas apply within their roles and teams.
The BCIU was welcomed by Berks County Commissioners Rivera and Santoni, Jr., and concluded with a presentation and guided tour of Reading Regional Airport led by Airport Director Zackary Tempesco. He shared insights into daily operations, recent upgrades, and ongoing expansion projects, while highlighting the airport’s role in supporting economic development in Berks County. The tour provided a firsthand look at how coordination, infrastructure, and strategic planning contribute to the growth of aviation in the region.
The session reinforced the organization’s commitment to aligned leadership, collaboration, and continuous improvement in service to students, families, and the community
