Head Start Students Shine as “Little Chefs” at Helping Harvest Community Kitchen

On Friday, April 10, and again on Friday, April 24, BCIU Head Start students enjoyed an exciting and memorable walking field trip to the Helping Harvest Community Kitchen. The experience blended creativity, discovery, and hands-on learning, making it a highlight of the spring season.

From the moment they arrived, the students eagerly stepped into the role of “little chefs.” With big smiles and curious minds, they created their very own pizzas, exploring a variety of healthy ingredients along the way. As they mixed, sprinkled, and layered toppings, the children discovered that trying new foods can be both fun and delicious.

The visits offered far more than a cooking activity; they served as a meaningful, real-world learning experience. Students practiced important life skills, including following directions, taking turns, and working cooperatively with their peers. Each step in the pizza-making process encouraged patience, focus, and teamwork.

The experience also fostered confidence and independence as the children made their own ingredient choices, expressed their creativity, and proudly enjoyed the results of their efforts. Their excitement was contagious, especially when it came time to taste their finished pizzas—a moment of accomplishment for every young chef.

We are grateful to the Helping Harvest Community Kitchen for providing such a warm, supportive, and enriching environment for our Head Start students. Experiences like these not only make learning memorable but also inspire curiosity, build lifelong skills, and encourage children to try new things!

It was truly a recipe for success!
