Celebrating Excellence at the 52nd Annual Berks County School Bus Drivers’ Safety Competition

The 52nd Annual Berks County School Bus Drivers’ Safety Competition, hosted by the Berks County Pupil Transportation Association (BCPTA), took place on April 18, 2026, at Daniel Boone Area High School. This long‑standing event continues to advance countywide transportation excellence by bringing together school bus drivers, judges, and transportation partners to complete a series of evaluated scenarios focused on safety, technical skill, and operational readiness.

Seven BCIU drivers—Wilma Herrera, Alicia Kachel, Lea True, Timothy (Max) Devlin, Nitida (Nity) Harrison, Barry Ravel, and Luz Ruiz—represented the BCIU with professionalism and strong performance throughout the competition. Their participation highlights the BCIU transportation team's commitment and capability.

BCIU staff and supporters also played a key role in the event by serving as volunteer judges, including Andrea Andrzjewski, Felix Camacho, Rosa Camacho, Matt Comfort, Ginger Gantert, Maggie Shearer, Ed Snyder, Terry Stephenson, and Julie Van Lear.

Two BCIU drivers earned top‑10 finishes:

  • Wilma Herrera – 8th place

  • Alicia Kachel – 9th place

Both drivers will advance to the 2026 State School Bus Drivers’ Safety Competition at Bald Eagle High School in State College in June.

This annual event remains an important benchmark for the BCIU transportation program, reinforcing high standards of safety and operational excellence while showcasing the dedication and preparedness of the BCIU’s transportation professionals
