Academic Challenge Showcases Berks County Scholars

High school scholars from across Berks County demonstrated teamwork, quick thinking, and academic depth throughout the 2025–2026 BCIU Academic Challenge season. Hosted by the BCIU Office of Professional Learning, this Jeopardy!-style competition featured teams from 14 school districts, each participating in four matches covering subjects such as history, geography, literature, mathematics, science, and current events.

The competition blends fast paced buzzer rounds with collaborative written-response questions, all presented by longtime “Quizmaster” Bill Reidel, a retired Kutztown Area School District teacher known for his engaging style and extensive knowledge.

The season culminated on March 26, 2026, with playoff matches featuring the top six teams. After a strong and steady performance, Daniel Boone Area School District, coached by Kelly Jones, earned the title of Berks County Regional Champion.

Daniel Boone will now represent Berks County at the Pennsylvania State Academic Competition on May 1, 2026, at the Pennsylvania State Capitol in Harrisburg. This year’s state event is hosted by Representative John Lawrence and brings together top academic teams from across the Commonwealth.

The Academic Challenge continues to highlight the intellectual talent and collaborative spirit of Berks County students, celebrating academic excellence in a dynamic and competitive setting.
