Room of students participating in Regional Invention Convention

On November 11, 2025, the Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) welcomed students from across the region for the annual Invention Convention at the BCIU’s Main Office. The Pennsylvania Invention Convention allows students to explore, design, and create inventions that address real-world problems. Participants learn the invention process, including identifying a problem, maintaining an invention log, developing and testing prototypes, and presenting their projects.

This year, 31 teams competed: 7 in grades 3-5, 18 in grades 6-8, and 6 in grades 9-12. Congratulations to our top teams:

High School

  • 1st: Bus Buddy – Exeter Township Senior High School

  • 2nd: Raising Roots – Exeter Township Senior High School

  • 3rd: Bag Buddy – Exeter Township Senior High School

Middle School

  • 1st: CASRIC – Wyomissing Area West Reading Elementary School

  • 2nd: HoodieZzz – Oley Valley Middle School

  • 3rd: Earthquake Proof Foundation for Homes – Governor Mifflin Middle School

Elementary School

  • 1st: Terra-Dri-Vator Pro – Governor Mifflin Brecknock Elementary School

  • 2nd: Find and Plant – Muhlenberg CE Cole School

  • 3rd: Smart Suitcase 3000 – Schuylkill Valley Elementary School

The first-place teams from each grade band will advance to the Statewide competition in February 2026 at the Hershey Lodge. Top teams from that event will then have the opportunity to compete at the National Invention Convention in June 2026 at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI.
