On October 8, 2025, the BCIU launched Accessibility in Action, a collaborative initiative between the Office of the Executive Director and the Office of Professional Learning. The campaign reinforces the organization’s commitment to creating digital content that is accessible, user-friendly, and compliant with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1AA).
Accessibility in Action offers monthly training sessions, virtual office hours, and a dedicated resource hub on BCIUnify to support staff in applying accessibility best practices across documents, emails, websites, and other digital materials.
Each training session highlights a specific accessibility topic and includes practical demonstrations. Recordings are available for on-demand viewing. Topics covered include: Alt Text & Links | Styles & Headings | Font, Sizing, & Color | Videos | Email & Communications | Forms & PDFs | Presentations & Graphic Design | Google Sites | Social Media.
By participating in the Accessibility in Action training series and leveraging the available resources, staff gain the knowledge and tools to create digital content that meets accessibility standards and enhances the overall quality of the BCIU’s communications. These efforts help ensure that every resource produced is clear, effective, and usable by all who rely on BCIU services and support.
