The Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) is proud to recognize individuals who go above and beyond in supporting the mission of education, service, and community advancement. This year, we are pleased to announce Jim Boscov as the recipient of the 2025 BCIU Outstanding Community Partner Award.
As Chairman and CEO of Boscov’s and Chairman of Our City Reading, Inc., Mr. Boscov joins a distinguished list of past recipients whose vision, generosity, and collaborative spirit have left a lasting impact on Berks County students, educators, and families.
The award, presented annually, recognizes an external partner whose leadership, advocacy, and collaboration significantly advance the mission of the BCIU to serve students, educators, and the community. Recipients demonstrate a longstanding commitment to educational advancement, an understanding of the BCIU’s role, and a willingness to devote time, expertise, and resources in support of the organization’s work.
Mr. Boscov not only meets but far exceeds the criteria for this award, exemplifying its highest ideals through decades of respected leadership and dedicated civic engagement. His commitment to civic responsibility, expanding access to opportunity, and championing the revitalization of the Greater Reading area is evident in both his professional endeavors and personal advocacy. Under his leadership, Boscov’s has remained a cornerstone of the region’s economy while fostering a corporate culture deeply rooted in generosity and community impact.
As Chairman of Our City Reading, Mr. Boscov has spearheaded neighborhood revitalization efforts and created meaningful public-private partnerships that have improved the quality of life and broadened opportunities for countless families. His contributions have extended into the educational landscape of Berks County, most notably through his partnership with the BCIU on projects such as the Helping Harvest Annex, home to the newest BCIU Learning Center location. Through Mr. Boscov’s vision and collaboration, the facility offers vibrant, high-quality learning spaces for the youngest learners in our community, including two Head Start classrooms, an outdoor play area, and meeting spaces.
He has also assisted the BCIU in exploring new BCIU service location options to advance long-term goals for innovation, operational efficiency, and enhanced public access.
