On June 3, 2025, the Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) Leadership Team gathered for its annual strategic work session, held this year at the Helping Harvest Community Kitchen at the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts. The session served as a dedicated time for the Leadership Team to connect and set the stage for the 2025-2026 school year with a focus on resiliency, serving with impact, and aligning purpose with practice.
The first segment of the day, “Serving with Impact,” included discussions on the BCIU’s mission, guiding principles, and strategic priorities; the 2025–2026 Start of the Year | State of the Unit; and a proposed action plan to support fostering a culture of belonging across the organization.
The second portion of the work session, “Aligning Purpose with Practice,” highlighted office priorities for the upcoming school year, financial updates, ongoing business planning for continuing organizational success, and an update relative to ensuring compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1AA).
The team also reviewed several supplemental documents, including the Board Policy Acknowledgment forms, board policy planning documents, and scheduling resources. Updates were shared on the revised BCIU Employee Handbook and ongoing safety and security measures within operations and information technology.
The business portion of the day concluded with a brief discussion of “The 7 Commitments of a Great Team” by Jon Gordon, setting the stage for follow-up conversations during future Leadership Team meetings.
The day concluded with a guided tour of the Helping Harvest Community Kitchen, led by Jay Worrall, President of Helping Harvest and BCIU’s 2024 Outstanding Community Partner. The team then participated in a hands-on community service activity, packaging donated turkey sausage into smaller bags to be distributed to neighbors in need.
