Hannah Barrick, J.D., and Andrew Potteiger.

Nearly 40 members of the Committee on Legislative Action (COLA) gathered on April 8, 2025, for the final meeting of the school year at the BCIU Main Office. Hannah Barrick, J.D., Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials (PASBO), joined the group to provide an overview of the Governor’s proposed state budget and its implications for education funding and policy.

COLA Co-Chairs Andrew Potteiger, Superintendent of the Brandywine Heights Area School District, and Dr. Greg Miller, Superintendent of the Fleetwood Area School District, along with Dr. Jill Hackman, Executive Director of the BCIU, highlighted key advocacy priorities, with a continued focus on cyber charter reform, equitable funding, school safety, and mandate relief.

In addition, members received the updated 2025 Legislative Directory, a helpful resource for identifying legislative representatives throughout Berks County and facilitating outreach efforts.

COLA meets three times during the school year to review legislation, set advocacy goals, and coordinate engagement strategies. The next COLA meeting is scheduled for September 9, 2025.

Special thanks to Hannah Barrick for her continued partnership and to all COLA members for their commitment to advocating on behalf of our students, educators, and schools.
