On Tuesday, March 25, 2025, leaders from the Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) joined IU officials from across the Commonwealth in Harrisburg for the Pennsylvania Association of Intermediate Units (PAIU) Day on the Hill. This annual event promotes legislative advocacy on issues critical to Pennsylvania public schools and students.
BCIU representatives—Dr. Jill Hackman, Executive Director; Dr. Michelle Reichard-Huff, Director of Early Childhood and Student Services; Lucille Gallis, Chief Financial Officer; and Russell Del Rosario, Safety and Security Program Administrator—were joined by colleagues from the Lancaster Lebanon IU and the Montgomery County IU for meetings with legislators who represent their regions.
The group highlighted shared priorities impacting students and educators, including early childhood education, special education, and behavioral health services.
The team was grateful for the opportunity to meet with or deliver advocacy materials to the following elected officials:
• Senators: Chris Gebhard, Scott Martin, Katie Muth, Tracy Pennycuick, Judy Schwank
• Representatives: Jamie Barton, Johanny Cepeda-Freytiz, Mark M. Gillen, Manuel Guzman Jr., David M. Maloney Sr., Jacklyn Rusnock, Eric J. Weaknecht, David H. Zimmerman
