Student Spotlight: Sophie

As we enter the holiday season, it is a good time to remember the importance of giving back to the community. In April 2022, Dr. Christi Weitzel, Assistant Director for Early Childhood and Student Services, shared wonderful news regarding Sophie Bassetti, a remarkable sixth-grade student from Conrad Weiser Middle School. Sophie, inspired by her mother, Mrs. Kristi Bassetti, Early Intervention (EI) occupational therapist, completed a school project using the assignment as an opportunity to help students with autism. Building on her research and the experiences her mother has had serving Early Intervention students, Sophie coordinated a toy drive to benefit students in the EI program. She set a goal to collect 20 toys, and was delighted to receive over 100 items during the drive!

The Early Intervention program is grateful for Sophie’s thoughtfulness, hard work, and generosity. The donated toys were disbursed throughout all EI classrooms. Coincidentally, this all occurred during Autism Awareness Month!
