The Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) is pleased to recognize Mr. Daniel W. Fogarty as the recipient of the 2020 BCIU Outstanding Community Partner Award. Since 2014, Mr. Fogarty has served as the Director of Workforce Development and the Chief Operating Officer for the Berks County Workforce Development Board (WDB).
This is the sixth year the award has been conferred by the Berks County Intermediate Unit. The award is given annually to an individual who:
- Demonstrates an understanding of the importance and role of the BCIU.
- Advocates in the community for the BCIU and the students served.
- Must be someone outside the BCIU (non-employee) who believes strongly in educational services and has demonstrated that commitment through their actions over time.
- Must be a recognized leader in their respective field and a member of the Berks County community.
In his role at the Workforce Development Board, Mr. Fogarty has championed the needs of the community at the state and national levels, inlcuding his work for the disconnected youth in Berks County. Mr. Fogarty is a member of the Berks STEM Ecosystem and a founding member of the Career Ready Berks Alliance Steering Committee, a program which has helped connect Berks County students to a wealth of experiences, including internships, job shadowing, informational interviews, classroom and career day speakers, and workplace tours. Additionally, Mr. Fogarty serves on the Occupational Advisory Committee of Berks Career and Technical Center, the Oley Valley School District Agriculture Committee, and the Berks Leadership Council.
“The Berks County Intermediate Unit and the education community of Berks County are fortunate to have an advocate like Mr. Fogarty,” said Dr. Jill Hackman. “Because of his work on the Workforce Development Board and the many committees on which he serves, Berks County students have been provided valuable opportunities that will lead to greater success in their chosen careers. Mr. Fogarty is truly deserving of being named our 2020 Outstanding Community Partner.”
