On Wednesday, January 8, the BCIU hosted the annual Mid-Year State of the Unit event at the BCIU Main Office. This annual event is an opportunity to update staff on the progress of goals and priorities of the organization for the school year.
Executive Director Dr. Jill Hackman opened the event by reviewing the results of the 2019 employee engagement survey and identifying the biggest opportunities for change and improvement.
Following Dr. Hackman’s presentation, the directors of each office and the Pennsylvania Key presented their office’s accomplishments for the first half of the school year and outlined their goals moving forward.
The event concluded with Dr. Hackman providing an overview of the BCIU’s efforts around safety and security while also highlighting upcoming events and important dates. More than 100 employees were in attendance at the event with more watching via live stream. The event was also recorded to allow all BCIU employees the opportunity to watch as they are able.

During the 2020 Mid-Year State of the Unit address, Executive Director Dr. Jill Hackman announced that the BCIU is currently finalizing a newly redesigned public website to be launched on March 2, 2020. In addition to a brand new look and layout, the berksiu.org website will offer site visitors three new enhancements: (1) improved, audience-based navigation; (2) mobile-friendly design; and (3) increased accessibility.
