CDL School Bus Training & Testing

Earn Your CDL with School Bus Endorsement

Here are the steps to attaining your CDL with school bus endorsement: 

  • Make an appointment for a School Bus Driver's Physical (DL-704).
  • Take a 20-hour training course, which consists of 14 hours of classroom time and six hours of driving time with a certified instructor.
  • Take a computer test at a PennDOT center, which consists of four tests:CDL General Knowledge Test, Air Brake Test, Passenger Endorsement Test, and School Bus Endorsement Test
  • Take the driving test, which consists of three tests:Inspection Test, Skills Test, and Driving Test

Third-Party Testing

The Berks County Intermediate Unit provides third-party testing for Class B and C CDL licenses.

To schedule your test, you must have a CDL-licensed driver come with you unless you plan to use one of our vehicles.

The driving test consists of three tests:

  • Inspection Test
  • Skills Test
  • Driving Test

Registration & Fees

The cost for each test (or retest) is $150.

Please note: If you plan to use a BCIU vehicle, the CDL test costs $650, which includes a minimum of six hours of training. Drivers must have a passenger endorsement or their permit. Additional hours are available at $75 an hour.
