Are you interested in enriching the life of a child? The Berks County Intermediate Unit has immediate job openings in the BCIU Child Care, Head Start, Early Intervention, Pre-K Counts and School-Age Special Education programs.
The Berks County Intermediate Unit Early Intervention Program is a public special education service provided to children, 3 to 5, who are experiencing a delay in development. The program currently serves more than 2,000 students in Berks County. The goal of the program is to provide individualized services to help every child meet their educational needs.
Services are provided in classrooms throughout the county in locations such as Boyertown, Hamburg, Lower Alsace, Muhlenberg, Oley, Reading, West Reading, and Wyomissing.
Most classrooms are staffed with low student to teacher ratios. A typical classroom will serve less than 11 students with one teacher and two or more paraeducators.
The Berks County Head Start program serves 640 children in 38 classrooms located at 15 sites around the county.
Federally funded, it is designed to bring about a greater degree of social competence and to prepare children of low-income families for kindergarten.
Children, ages 3–5, attend classes approximately 4 hours per day, 4 days per week during the school year.
The Pre-K Counts Program provides high quality pre-kindergarten opportunities to three- and four-year-olds at no cost to families. Children from age three until the entry age for kindergarten are eligible to apply.
PA Pre-K Counts is targeted to children at risk of school failure, either because of income, language (English is not the first language), or special needs issues.
