2016 SUPERINTENDENT STUDY COUNCIL

Superintendent Study Council
Berks County Superintendents, along with BCIU Executive Director, Dr. Jill Hackman and BCIU Assistant to the Executive Director, Carl Blessing, visited the State Capitol on October 26 and 27, as part of the 2016 Superintendents Study Council, to connect with local legislators and key staff members to engage in conversations about issues of concern to ensure the success of our schools.

In addition to meetings with local legislators, superintendents participated in a round table discussion with Senator Lloyd Smucker, Chair of the PA Senate Education Committee, and Representative Stan Saylor, Chair of the PA House Education Committee. During the roundtable, Senator Smucker and Representative Saylor shared information on current education committee priorities and education committee items for 2017.

Secretary Rivera also met with superintendents to discuss PDE recommendations for Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), the new School Performance Profile (SPP) timeline update, the status of Act 1 (SB 880 – regulation of school property taxes), and other critical PDE initiatives.
