On Friday, October 26, an Open House was held for the Project SEARCH program. Approximately 40 individuals including interns, potential students, school district administrators, staff members, agency representatives, and parents attended the event. The purpose was to provide information regarding the Project SEARCH program currently housed at Penn State Health St. Joseph, 145 N. 6th Street, Reading.
The Open House’s program included student testimonials, a presentation by Program Administrator Mr. Brian Hocking, and a tour of the facility. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Berks County Intermediate Unit, Penn State Health St. Joseph, Berks County Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, Berks County Service Access & Management Inc., Berks County Mental Health / Developmental Disabilities Program, and our local school districts, the Project SEARCH program is off to a great start again as this is our second location since being at Deka, East Penn Manufacturing, Inc., over the course of six years.
As of now, the program serves five interns from the Reading, Fleetwood Area, Wilson, Hamburg Area, and Boyertown Area school districts. The program can serve up to eight interns and they hope to accomplish this goal by the end of this school year.
