NETWORK GROUPS

The BCIU coordinates networking opportunities for Berks County educators. From high school principals, to ESL teachers and supervisors, to school librarians, teachers of gifted students, and many more, the BCIU brings educators together to share tips, best practices, news of initiatives and standards and the opportunity to network and problem solve with professional peers.

BERKS COACHING COLLABORATIVE

The Berks Coaching Collaborative Networking meetings are designed as a professional development support system for instructional coaches, teacher leaders, and specialists. This network group in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Institute for Instructional Coaching (PIIC) provide support to coaches to communicate, collaborate, and share resources with one another in their efforts to support teachers in improving classroom practices, student engagement, and student achievement.  Materials and information that are disseminated during this professional development opportunity will help to build capacity and support for coaches, leaders, and specialists within their school districts.

BERKS COUNTY CURRICULUM COORDINATORS NETWORK

Coordinated by the BCIU, this group brings curriculum coordinators from Berks County’s school districts together to discuss current issues. Various representatives from the Pennsylvania Department of Education, the business community, and other partners provide information during the meetings regarding state initiatives and other matters that have an impact on school districts.

BERKS COUNTY TRANSITION COORDINATING COUNCIL (BCTCC)

BCTCC is a partnership of educators, service providers, students and families, employers, consumers, and the Berks County community whose mission is to plan and facilitate successful transition of students with disabilities from school programs to adult life.

TRANSITION COORDINATORS

Each of Berks County’s 18 school districts designates a transition coordinator. This person receives training regarding the transition provisions of federal law and state regulations, as well as local resources. The coordinators also disseminate this information within their school districts.

High school principals from Berks County’s 18 public school districts, two parochial schools, and career and technology centers meet on a monthly basis. The meetings provide an opportunity for the principals to learn more about federal and state initiatives in addition to finding out what schools throughout the county are doing. Roundtable discussions involve scheduling, course scope and sequence, administrative professional development, and other topics of interest as indicated by the group.

INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY

Mobile devices in today’s classrooms are providing teachers with advanced applications and programs that change and challenge the way teachers teach, and students learn. Our group of curriculum experts, teachers, administrators, network personnel, and whomever is interested in sharing ideas related to improving and supporting instructional student learning through the use of mobile technology devices are welcome to join our group. We are always looking for new ideas and topics that affect how mobile technology impacts student learning, and the changes and obstacles educators face moving forward with mobile devices in the classroom.

MULTI-TIERED SYSTEM OF SUPPORT/RESPONSE TO INSTRUCTION AND INTERVENTION RtII NETWORK

To better support Response to Instruction and Intervention professionals, the BCIU will host networking and meeting opportunities for building and district leaders involved in the planning and implementation of a systematic response to instruction and process.

Topics will be discussed will include the nine components for using RtII for SLD determination.  We hope you join us for these informative sessions.
