REGIONAL WIDE AREA NETWORK (RWAN) SERVICES

The BCIU manages the Berks County Regional Wide Area Network (RWAN). The network connects the BCIU, 15 Berks County school districts, and two career and technology centers to each other and to other Pennsylvania intermediate units and their member schools through PAIUnet, a statewide, high-speed, educational network.

The RWAN also supplies Berks County’s public schools with connectivity to universities, hospitals, museums, and libraries through Internet2, a research network that offers access to curriculum, research materials, and videoconferencing opportunities.

The BCIU also provides cost-effective Internet service to all RWAN members by purchasing it in volume and distributing it throughout the regional network.

In addition, the BCIU also provides limited network consulting services to schools in the county. Services include network/firewall trouble shooting, diagnostics, and design consultation.
