The memory of a Hamburg Area School District student killed in a car accident was honored with a donation to a scholarship fund established in her name.
Staff members of the Berks County Intermediate Unit’s Alternative Education program will present a check for $305 to Diane LaBell of the GoggleWorks on Wednesday, February 22, 2007, at the Alsace Building, 17 Basket Road, Reading.
Students and staff at the Alsace facility made and sold holiday ornaments in December to raise money for the fund. Ashley Boyer had been enrolled in the BCIU Alternative Education program when she succumbed to fatal injuries she received in a car crash on Route 61 in March 2006. Because she had exhibited promising artistic talent and had shown interest in activities at the GoggleWorks, a nonprofit community arts center in Reading, a scholarship fund in her name was established there.
Following the presentation, Monica DeMarco, Ashley’s mother, visited classrooms to speak with students about the dangers of drinking and driving.
