The Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) along with race partners, Penn State Health St. Joseph and Penn State Berks, hosted the first annual BCIU Apple a Day 5k on Saturday, April 28, 2018, to benefit the United Way of Berks County.
The event took place on Penn State Berks’ campus with 48 5k runners steppin off at 9:00 a.m. on a wheel-measured course which looped two times on paved surfaces through the campus. Beginning at 9:45 a.m., more than 60 family and friends participated in the Family Fun Run/Walk which was one loop of the 5k course.
Penn State Health St. Joseph provided a monetary donation to offset race costs as well as t-shirts for participants. Trophies were awarded to the 5k race top male and female runners in addition to medals for the top three males and females in varying age brackets compliments of Tompkins VIST Bank.
Tompkins VIST Bank, Berks Packing Company, Appeeling Fruit, and Austin Graphics’ donations supported the event with signage, smoothies, hot dogs, and apples. In collaboration with the generous partners, sponsors, and participants BCIU was able to raise over $6,200 which will be credited toward next year’s Berks County Intermediate Unit United Way employee giving campaign. We are off to a great start for 2018-2019!
