First Aid & Fire Safety Training

Injuries and illness are common occurrences in the school-aged population, and expanding enrollments of students with disabilities increase the possibility of medical emergencies within schools. Schools have responsibility for the safety and well-being of all students and personnel during the hours of attendance at school or school-sponsored activities and while students and personnel are on school property. The Berks County Intermediate Unit offers training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), fire safety, and first aid for all school personnel. Training may be scheduled at your facility or ours, during daytime, evening, or weekend hours.

Online Learning

Online learning, also called e-learning or virtual learning, is reshaping staff development in schools and districts worldwide. Online learning helps schools address the teacher substitute shortage, provides learning in niche areas, and is cost effective and flexible. It is generally agreed that the research indicates there is no significant differences in the achievement of students in well-designed distance learning programs and the achievements of those in traditional face-to-face instruction. Online learning supports a paradigm shift toward the following:

bullet

coaching (from lecturing)

bullet

logging in (from taking attendance)

bullet

connected learning (from distribution requirements)

bullet

performance-based learning (from credit hours)

bullet

collaborating (from competing)

bullet

network connections (from library collections)

bullet

active learning (from passive learning)

bullet

customized materials (from textbooks)
