Curriculum Evaluation and Needs Assessment Service

School districts may contract with BCIU to coordinate a curriculum evaluation/needs assessment. Evaluations are customized for the district, which may wish to focus on a single content area (for example, English Language Arts, K-12), or organizational level (for example, elementary school program). A team of evaluators consisting of administrators and teachers conduct a three-day on-site visit to observe classes and review policies, curricula, and assessment data to provide the district with a portrait of what is occurring in the schools, highlighting strengths and offering recommendations.

Science & Technology Benchmarks

In the summer of 2000, the proposed Pennsylvania Science and Technology Academic Standards were used to develop a set of K-12 benchmarks. These benchmarks will be used as the basis for developing standards-based performance tasks, reviewing district curricula at various grade levels, creating awareness by teachers of the tasks required of students above and below their grade level, and writing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for special education students. In addition, they will be used in the development of units that integrate science and technology with math and language arts standards.
