First Aid & Fire Safety Training for Child Care Providers

Injuries and illness are common occurrences in the school-aged population, and expanding enrollments of students with disabilities increase the possibility of medical emergencies within schools. Schools have responsibility for the safety and well-being of all students and personnel during the hours of attendance at school or school-sponsored activities and while students and personnel are on school property. The Berks County Intermediate Unit offers training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), fire safety, and first aid for all school personnel. Training may be scheduled on-site at your nonprofit child care center with a minimum of 20 participants.

Guest Teacher Training Program

The Berks County Intermediate Unit offers training for those who wish to serve as guest (substitute) teachers to replace regular classroom teachers during training sessions and/or leave time. Successful completion of the two-day training session qualifies the individual to work as a guest teacher in participating local school districts. During training, participants will visit actual classrooms, talk with teachers, learn techniques to deal with today’s students, and review tips for the effective use of technology.
