Child Care
Information Services of Berks County
Child
Care Information Services of Berks County (CCIS) is funded by the Department
of Public Welfare, and is housed at the Berks County Intermediate Unit. The
program’s primary goal is to help Berks County families find and select
affordable, quality child care.
CCIS
provides child care funding to low- and moderate-income working families, to students pursuing a high school diploma, and to County Assistance Office clients, attending approved work or training programs.
Interested families must meet income guidelines and demonstrate a need for child care
in order to qualify. Eligible families may enroll at the provider of their
choice, as funds are available. Child care resource and referral services are
available to all families, free of charge.

Early Childhood Education
Project (ECEP)
This project is a proactive initiative that combines three BCIU
programs: Child Care, Early Intervention, and Head Start. The intent of
the program is to establish classroom environments (academic and social)
that support and combine children from all three programs. more
First Aid & Fire Safety Training
for Child Care Providers
Injuries
and illness are common occurrences in the school-aged population, and
expanding enrollments of students with disabilities increase the possibility
of medical emergencies within schools. Schools have responsibility for the
safety and well-being of all students and personnel during the hours of
attendance at school or school-sponsored activities and while students and
personnel are on school property. The Berks County Intermediate Unit offers
training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), use of automated external
defibrillators (AEDs), fire safety, and first aid for all school personnel. Training may be scheduled
on-site at your nonprofit child care center with a minimum of 20
participants.
