MISSION STATEMENT
Our mission is to prepare all students for successful careers and higher education through a highly acclaimed, integrated academic and technical education experience.
Director’s Message
The achieve- ments of our students continue to amaze me. This issue of Career Connections
takes a look at 20 of our more than
400 seniors who will complete a career and technical program at BCTC. The 2016-2017 school year has been another extremely successful year for BCTC’s students and staff. We started out strong and we finished even stronger. Evidence can be found within the level of student achievement as well as the numerous awards our students received from competitions and leadership op- portunities. Here are just a few of the significant achievements and awards bestowed upon our students this year:
• Students competed in the SkillsUSA, HOSA and FCCLA national competitions in June and July of 2016. BCTC had 16 students either place in the top three places in the country or receive a national level
of achievement.
• Both the East and West Campus received the Career and Technical Education Excellence Award from the Pennsylvania Department of Education for having 75% or more of 2016 seniors score at the “advanced” level on the end of program National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) exam. BCTC campuses were two of just 13 Career and Technology Centers (CTCs) to receive this distinction.
• BCTC continues to achieve at the top 5% of all CTCs in the state for students earning transferrable industry validated certifications prior to graduation.
• 97 students were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society.
• 18 students received awards for their entries at the fall Oley Fair.
• Four students from Automotive Technology qualified and participated in the 24th Annual Greater Philadelphia Automotive Technology Competition. Two students placed third and two students placed fourth.
• Two students from Communication Media took first place in the National NOCTI video contest.
• All three Career and Technical Student Organizations had state competitors this year and will have students competing at the national level this summer.
• The Business Management & Entrepreneurship students won two awards at national competitions this spring through the Virtual Enterprises International Network that
included more than 400 schools.
• Construction Cluster students and teachers completed the Student Built House in Oley. This is another example of the pride BCTC students and staff take in their work. The house will be featured in the Berks County Parade
of Homes in June.
Whether the path ahead for our students leads to college, full-time employment, military service, or some combination thereof; we can be proud of their numerous accomplishments. We wish the students a wonderful summer and success as they begin the next chapter of their journey.
