ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY

The BCIU provides assistive technology services to Berks County school districts without charge. Services include:

Information about borrowing, acquiring, and using assistive technology.
Organizational help with teams to perform assistive technology assessments including team information-gathering and trials of devices/equipment.
Assistance in acquiring equipment for assessment purposes.
Staff training and support in how to effectively employ assistive technology for students.
Consultation with teachers, speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and parents about assistive technology devices.

BCIU staff provide troubleshooting services and training on best practices. Classroom supports are provided through itinerant and classroom services. In addition, mounting systems and information on specific equipment are available to schools.
