Meeting locations: River's Chase Board Room, 1111 Commons Blvd., Muhlenberg Township; BCIU Education Centre, 2101 Centre Ave., Reading (across from First Energy Stadium)
Please contact Jill Mittl (jilmit@berksiu.org or 610-987-8405) if you have an item to add to the meeting agenda. If you would like Rob to address a specific topic and/or arrange for a presenter to discuss a specific topic, please contact him.
Although some Berks County school districts have stand-alone human resources offices, many do not, so these meetings provide an opportunity for participants to keep abreast of current developments in the management of public school personnel. Members also share resources, procedures, and best practices for implementing laws and regulations.
The BCIU’s HR Office also can distribute requests for information, forms, procedures, etc., from one district to the others. This allows school districts to streamline efforts and maximize resources.
Issues that have been addressed by this human resources peer group include how to lower a school district’s workers’ compensation and unemployment compensation liability, as well as compliance with:
- The No Child Left Behind Act
- The Fair Labor Standards Act
- Pennsylvania’s new Open Records Law.
In addition, BCIU human resources staff members provide committee members with updates on such issues as:
- Teacher certification
- Employee background checks
- Pennsylvania Department of Education initiatives
The Berks County School Human Resources Committee is a dynamic group committed to ensuring a quality education for every child. The members of the BCIU’s human resources office are quite proud and perfectly positioned to coordinate and facilitate these efforts!
