When it comes to depicting children as they truly are, nothing beats candid photos. No amount of directing or staging can reproduce the spontaneity or innocence of kids being kids.

We took this photo at a local elementary school to illustrate the district's Web site, which we were overhauling. It's effective because it's colorful, has a strong center of interest, and makes good use of dynamic composition.
