staff portraits

Educational institutions often make use of portraits of staff members in newsletters, annual reports, and Web sites. Some personnel have professional publicity photos available for such purposes, although most do not. An office portrait is an expedient alternative.

These photos are examples of portraits done on location with a digital SLR and on-camera flash. Although they do not benefit from all of the technical features of in-studio portraits, they are attractive and respectful images of two BCIU administrators. The photographer and his subjects were pleased with the way the combination of window light and bounced electronic flash produced a soft, flattering quality of light.

These shots corroborate what professional photographers know from working with subjects who are not professional models: “the best approach is to look at the camera and smile!”
