GUEST TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAM

The Berks County Intermediate Unit 14 is offering Guest Teacher Training for individuals with a bachelor's degree (in any content area) who are interested in serving as substitute teachers. The training program will enable participants to substitute in BCIU classes as well as classes within the 14 participating school districts in Berks County

NEW APPLICANTS

In order to be accepted into the Guest Teacher Training Program, each candidate must dowload, complete, and submit ALL required documents and forms contained in the application packet.

  • Berks County Guest Teacher Training Program Application (due by November 18)
  • PA Child Abuse History Clearance (due by November 18)
  • PA Criminal Background Check (due by November 18)
  • FBI Background Check (due by November 18)
  • Arrest or Conviction Form - PDE 6004 (due by December 30)
  • Guest Teacher Training Program Reference forms - 2 copies (due by November 18)
  • School Personnel Health Record (due by December 30)
  • PDE 338 G Form - signed by physician (due by December 30)
  • Request for Service - Occupational Health Services (for informational purposes only)

In addition, Form 1-9 with appropriate forms of identification is due by December 30.

2011-2012 Guest Teacher Interview & Training DATES

December 7, 2011 - Interview Screening
Times vary, scheduled with applicant

January 11, 2012 - Day 1 Training
(inclement weather make-up date - January 19, 2012)
8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

January 12, 2012 - Day 2 of Training
(inclement weather make-up date - January 20, 2012)
8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Upon successful completion of the interview screening and two days of the training program, participants will be qualified to substitute in short-term assignments for the BCIU, the Berks Career & Technology Center (BCTC), and the following participating Berks County school districts:

Antietam - Boyertown Area - Brandywine Heights Area - Conrad Weiser Area - Exeter Township - Fleetwood Area - Hamburg Area - Kutztown Area - Muhlenberg - Oley Valley - Schuylkill Valley - Tulpehocken Area - Twin Valley - Wilson

RENEWAL PROCESS

Renewal applications will be uploaded to the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) two times per year (January and August.)

In order to process your renewal in January 2012, your completed PDE 338 G form and your $5.00 money order (payable to BCIU) must be received by December 30, 2011.

The PDE 338 G form must be completed in its entirety. However for renewals only, you may leave Section II, Question 2 and Section III blank.

  • Click on the third quick reference link - "Teacher Certification System"
  • You will need the educator's social security number to "Check an Educator's Certification Application Status"
  • You will need the educator's PPID number (or you will be able to obtain it with the educator's name, birth date, and social security number) to "Check an Educator's Continuing Education Progress"
