DRIVER EDUCATION

The BCIU offers a standardized driver training course for students in Berks County school districts. The program, which is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), includes 30 hours of classroom or online theory instruction and six hours of behind-the-wheel training.

Behind-the-wheel training may be taken concurrently with either format (classroom or online) of theory instruction, or the two training components may be taken separately. The curricula comply with PDE regulations, and all BCIU instructors are PDE-certified.

Upon successful completion of the courses, students will receive Certificates of Driver Training or Certificates of Completion, with which they may apply for a reduction in their insurance premium. Reductions of insurance premiums are granted at the discretion of the insurance company.
