ETHICS FOR STUDENTS IN A DIGITAL WORLD
Ethics for Students in a Digital World is a collaborative project in which panels of four to six gifted middle school students participate from their schools via videoconference. The BCIU is the host site for this event and uses a bridge to connect all participating schools.
A panel of experts, including police officers specializing in Internet crime, as well as university ethics professors, discuss topics related to ethics and the use of technology. Students interact via skits that each school group creates on topics such as interacting on Facebook, stealing passwords, taking inappropriate photos and uploading them to YouTube, changing grades in an electronic grade book, and more.
This interactive format opens up extensive discussion among the student groups. The videoconferencing allows them to hold discussions with students outside of their district, providing them with the opportunity to access a wider range of viewpoints.
All school districts in Berks County are invited to join in this interactive videoconference which is held each year.
