LICENSING & ACCREDITATION - BCIU CHILD CARE
The Department of Public Welfare inspects all BCIU Child Care centers prior to their opening and at least once per year. Our centers also meet requirements set by the Department of Labor and Industry. Each facility is licensed and registered by the state.
Our centers substantially exceed the minimum legal requirements, especially in the areas of staff certification, education programs, and enrichment experiences.
The BCIU’s Child Care Program participates in Keystone STARS, an initiative of the Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL) to improve, support, and recognize the continuous quality improvement efforts of early learning programs in Pennsylvania.
The Keystone STARS Performance Standards provide the foundation for the program. Performance Standards are grouped into four levels: STAR 1, STAR 2, STAR 3, and STAR 4. Each level builds on the previous level and uses research-based best practices to promote quality early learning environments and positive child outcomes. The standards address staff qualifications and professional development, the early learning program, partnerships with family and community, and leadership and management.
The BCIU’s Child Care centers currently have attained STARS levels ranging from 2 to 3. For the specific STARS rating for each of our centers, refer to Child Care Center Locations, Hours of Operation, and STARS Level.
