BCIU CHILD CARE
If you’re looking for safe, nurturing, and educational child care for your children, look no further than the BCIU. We’ve been providing exceptional care for Berks County’s children since 1971. We now have 17 child care centers located throughout the county, providing services for infants (minimum age 13 months) through age 12 in our year-round toddler, preschool, and school-age programs. BCIU Child Care is an equal opportunity employer and child care provider.
For a listing of our child care center locations and hours, check out our Child Care Center Locations, Hours of Operation and STARS Level page.
Professional Staff
Each of our child care centers is staffed with a teacher and assistant teachers. These professionals, as well as a dedicated administrative staff, work to ensure your child’s social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth. Ongoing in-service programs for teachers and assistants keep them up to date on proven child care methods and techniques.
BCIU Child Care staff members meet regulations set by the Department of Public Welfare’s Bureau of Child Development. Each employee is screened and interviewed by our supervisors, and all new employees must pass criminal, child abuse, and FBI clearance histories. In addition, they must provide two written references and a completed physical appraisal. All center staff attend a minimum of six hours’ training annually.
We never leave a child unattended at our centers. Supervisors visit each center regularly to monitor daily operations. Our staff members are trained to handle emergencies and someone is always present who has completed a first aid course and is certified in CPR. All of our staff members are required by law to report any suspected child abuse.
Meals
Balanced and nutritious meals are essential to a child’s healthy growth and development. We serve a hot breakfast and an afternoon snack daily. Parents are asked to provide their child’s lunch, which may be heated by center staff, if necessary. The center provides a beverage for lunch.
