K-12 BENCHMARKS

In the summer of 2000, a group of educators met to develop a set of K-12 benchmarks for language arts, math, and science and technology. These benchmarks were based on the first set of standards for each category.

Using the Benchmarks

We suggest you use these benchmarks as the basis for developing standards-based performance tasks, reviewing district curricula at various grade levels, creating awareness by teachers of the tasks required of students above and below their grade level, and writing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for special education students.

Please note that these documents are only one conceptualization of how Pennsylvania's Proposed Standards could be distributed across the K-12 grade levels. We encourage educators to review these benchmarks and use what they believe will be helpful in their setting.
