KEYNOTE SPEAKER
PA Attorney General - TOM CORBETT
Tom Corbett was elected to serve as attorney general, Pennsylvania's chief law enforcement officer, in 2004. In November 2008, he won reelection, drawing strong bipartisan support for the office's ongoing mission to make the commonwealth a safer and better place for families to live, work, and grow.
Attorney General Corbett has worked to improve the safety of every Pennsylvanian by fighting illegal drugs; arresting Internet child predators; protecting seniors; defending consumers; and safeguarding the environment. He also created the Public Corruption Unit, dedicated to investigating and prosecuting corruption cases involving state officials and government employees.
Tom began his career as an assistant district attorney in Allegheny County. He also served as U.S. attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania and once before as attorney general.
Throughout the years, Tom has been an advisor to U.S. presidents and governors. He has also worked in the private sector, formed his own law firm, and served our country in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.
A lifelong Pennsylvania resident, Tom married his college sweetheart, Susan. They are the proud parents of two children: Tom, a video game producer, and Katherine, a prosecutor in the Philadelphia district attorney's office.

Dr. John J. George
As executive director of the Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU), a premier educational services agency, Dr. John J. George is responsible for the administration and operation of over 100 programs serving the schools of the county. Also, as superintendent of the Berks Career and Technology center, he is equally proud of the strong vocational education programs offered by the center and of its mission to provide youngsters with skills needed to enter the working world.
An advocate of professional and community involvement, Dr. George serves as a member of many boards, including the Berks Business Education Coalition, Crime Alert, Junior Achievement, and the Workforce Investment Board.
Dr. George began his tenure with the BCIU in October 2008 after serving two years as superintendent and two years as assistant superintendent of the Warwick School District in Lititz, PA. At Warwick, Dr. George oversaw a budget of $55 million and increased student achievement as measured by the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) and the Pennsylvania Value Added Assessment System (PVAAS).
From December 1993 to June 2004, Dr. George was supervisor and then director of Exceptional Children Services (ECS) for the Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit 13. While a director at IU13, Dr. George saw the ECS program grow from 400 to more than 1,200 employees and from a budget of $25 million to one of $54 million in just over seven years.
His experience also includes employment with the Capital Area Intermediate Unit 15 as director of Comprehensive System of Personnel Development, and with the National Association of State Directors of Special Education. Dr. George also has worked as a special education teacher.
Dr. George earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary and special education from George Washington University and Master of Education and Doctor of Education degrees in instruction and learning from the University of Pittsburgh. He also has completed post-doctoral studies in education administration from Temple University.
He was born in McKeesport, PA. He and his wife, Cheryl, live in Lititz with their two daughters, Sara and Jennifer. He is a Civil War enthusiast and, in his spare time, Dr. George serves as a Sunday school instructor at Grace Church, Lititz. |
KELLY S. KLINE
Kelly S. Kline is currently assigned to the Appeals Unit of the Berks County District Attorney's Office, where she handles all stages of post-conviction litigation from direct appeals and arguments before the state appellate courts to habeas litigation at the federal level.
She served as a Berks County Assistant District Attorney from 1999-2004, during which time she prosecuted a variety of major cases. From early 2004 until December 2005, she worked in the Office of the Pennsylvania Attorney General, first handling criminal prosecutions then moving into the prosecution of Medicaid fraud.
Ms. Kline is also a supervising attorney for the Berks County Investigative Grand Jury. In addition, she has served as an instructor at the Reading Police Academy for more than six years.
Ms. Kline is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and the United States Third Circuit Court of Appeals; she is a member of the Berks County and Pennsylvania Bar associations and the Pennsylvania District Attorney's Association.
Kelly Kline is a 1991 graduate of Oley Valley High School. She graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1995 and earned a Juris Doctor degree from Widener University School of Law in 1998. |
Michelle Gwinn Nutter
Michelle Gwinn Nutter is project manager of the Center for Safe Schools and is a Pennsylvania-certified teacher.
Prior to joining the Safe Schools team, she was a civil rights investigator with the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General. During her 10 years with that office, she conducted numerous presentations to schools, communities, and law-enforcement departments on the topics of organized hate groups, hate crimes, school-based harassment, prejudice reduction, diversity, gangs, terrorism awareness, and First Amendment issues.
As a Safe Schools coordinator, Michelle continues to provide technical assistance to schools and communities on these issues by speaking at various workshops, conferences, and teacher-in-service trainings and student assemblies.
Ms. Nutter is a nationally-recognized speaker and has presented sessions at the following national conferences on the topics of hate groups, hate crimes, and gangs: the Persistently Safe Schools Conference (2005, 2006, and 2007); the National Crime Prevention Council Conference (2007); the Ophelia Project’s National Conference (2008); the National Association of School Resource Officers Conference (2008); and the International Bullying Prevention Association Conference (2009).

DONALD A. STEWART
Donald Stewart serves as a detective with the Berks County District Attorney’s Office. Presently assigned to the Computer Forensic Section, he is a certified forensic computer examiner and a certified electronic evidence specialist. His duties include forensic computer examinations, cell phone examinations, and Internet investigations.
Detective Stewart retired from Bern Township Police in December 2000 with 23 years experience as a street police officer.
Detective Stewart has received extensive training in the investigation of computer crime, computer forensics, data recovery, and related topics. He is qualified as an expert in Berks County Common Pleas Court on the subjects of computer forensic exams and recovering digital data.
Detective Stewart has delivered training on the proper detection, seizure, and collection of electronic evidence at local, state, and international venues. In addition, he has given numerous presentations to parents on “Internet Safety: How to Protect Your Child Online.”

STEVE POWELL
Lieutenant Powell is a police officer in the Vice/Viper Unit of the City of Reading Police Department. He has served the department since 1991.
Lieutenant Powell is currently assigned to the Vice and Narcotics Section. From 2001–2006, he investigated organized and gang-related crime as part of the Reading Area Violent Crimes Task Force.
