The challenges of today’s education system demand strong, informed leadership. To aid K-through-twelve central office administrators, building administrators, and teachers in leading the way, the Berks County Intermediate Unit is proud to present the 2010–2011 Leadership Series, “From Knowing to Doing: Leading the Art and Science of Teaching.”
Featuring nationally respected education leaders Dr. Robert J. Marzano and Dr. Debra Pickering, this three-part Act 45- and Act 48-approved series will provide a comprehensive framework for teaching and will outline ten critical areas of instructional practice. It will address how administrators can lead teachers in a way that keeps attention focused on student learning, while still allowing teachers flexibility and creativity. It will also provide a systematic framework for providing feedback, which will help to foster a culture of continuous professional development for teachers.
Participants will explore a wide variety of topics, including: cross-discipline, research-based instructional strategies; the importance of individual teacher profiles that identify each teacher’s instructional strengths and weaknesses; and teacher feedback protocols that help teachers set performance goals and achieve instructional expertise. Attendees will also examine the unique power of different types of feedback, including self-reflection, walk-throughs, teacher rounds, complete observations; and other useful topics.
This informative series will take place at the Berks County Intermediate Unit’s Education Centre in Reading, Pennsylvania on November 10, 2010; January 19, 2011; and March 8, 2011. Registration forms must be submitted by October 11, 2010.
