Additional functions of the Public Relations Department include coordinating the BCIU’s relations with the mass media and producing official publications, such as Emphasis, which spotlights a service or program of interest to schools and families; Unison, the agency’s employee newsletter; and the State of the Unit Report, the BCIU’s annual report to the community.

Public Relations Staff

The department’s professional staff has more than 60 years of combined experience in serving the communication needs of clients in the education, non-profit, and corporate sectors. Areas of expertise include communication consulting and planning, writing, editing, photography, design, Web design, and audio-visual production.

The Public Relations team has produced many award-winning publications and Web sites that have earned recognition from the Pennsylvania School Public Relations Association and the Pennsylvania School Board Association. Staff members keep in touch with best practices of the profession through membership in the Pennsylvania School Public Relations Association, the National School Public Relations Association, and the Pennsylvania School Web Developers Association.

Richard Deemer serves as program administrator of public relations. He joined the BCIU in 1999 after working for 20 years in the field of communications, public relations, and photography. He also served for 12 years as an adjunct professor of art, communications, and English at a Berks County college. Rick holds a bachelor’s degree in secondary education/English and a master’s degree in English from the University of Scranton.

Pam Keeler serves as the department’s Web designer. She designs, builds, and maintains Web sites for BCIU and its partners and clients. She also designs audio-visual productions and has served as instructor for workshops on Web design and various Adobe applications. Pam has been employed by the BCIU since 2000. She holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education/early childhood education from Kutztown University and a Webmaster certificate from Pennsylvania State University.

Julie Bunnick serves as the BCIU’s graphic designer. When she joined the agency in 2006, she had more than 10 years of experience in corporate communications, including design and production expertise in branding, newsletters, collateral materials, and Web sites. Julie applies experience she gained while operating her own design business to a wide range of marketing and advertising projects. She holds a bachelor’s degree in public relations from Ursuline College in Ohio.

Jason Tremblay serves as the department’s public relations specialist. After a decade of diverse positions ranging from industrial fabricator to voiceover artist, he joined the BCIU in 2010. Jason brings a deep understanding and appreciation of writing, technology, audio production, and online media to his role as writer and content producer. He holds a bachelor’s degree in professional writing from the Pennsylvania State University Schreyer Honors College.
