PA State CapitolDr. Jill Hackman and Mr. Carl Blessing traveled to the Capital on October 18 as part of the PAIU Fall Day on the Hill to talk to legislators the important contributions IUs are making in communities across the Commonwealth. Along with other scheduled events for the day, Dr. Hackman and Mr. Blessing scheduled meetings with our local state senators and/or designees during the morning to discuss how IUs support schools, educators, and students throughout the state, delivering cost effective programs and services for districts, charters, and non-public schools – supporting educators, teachers, and direct services to children.

They also shared fast fact survey data with local representatives, showing a snapshot of the services intermediate units deliver, including savings realized as a result of energy, health care, and supply purchasing consortia; transportation services, substitute teacher placements, background checks, and fingerprint services. Time was also spent sharing specific information on how Berks County IU was working locally to support students, schools, and communities.

All intermediate unit representatives, when visiting their local state legislators, offered their support and assistance to PDE in helping to implement priority education initiatives, highlighting how IUs have the resources to help make communicating with 500 school districts manageable and efficient.
