The Berks County Intermediate Unit is pleased to recognize Dr. Edward Michalik as the recipient of the 2019 BCIU Outstanding Community Partner Award. Since 1998, Dr. Michalik has served as the administrator of the Berks County Office of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities and the Executive Director for the Area Agency on Aging for the County of Berks.

In more than 20 years of service to Berks County, Dr. Michalik has been a tireless advocate for mental health awareness, especially for children and youth. He has played a critical role in emergency preparedness and safe schools efforts, including attending meetings, offering valuable input, and forging connections with community partners. Dr. Michalik and the Berks County MH/DD Program have promoted, collaborated, and supported the Keeping Kids Safe Symposium since its inception in 2009. In addition to supporting the BCIU’s initiatives and Berks County schools, Dr. Michalik and the Berks County MH/DD Program have partnered with other community organizations to enhance the quality of life in Berks County.
