2018 SCHOOL BUS DRIVER SAFETY COMPETITION

2018 School Bus Driver Safety CompetitionThe Berks County Pupil Transportation Association held the 44th Annual School Bus Driver Safety Competition at Twin Valley Middle School on Friday, March 30, 2018. The event, which includes participants, judges, and volunteers from all of Berks County’s 18 school districts and numerous school bus contractors, is designed to reinforce good practices, recognize excellence, and demonstrate their professionalism, skill, and dedication to pupil transportation.

Fifty-three contestants from the 18 Berks County school districts competed. The BCIU team, comprised of the following 14 individuals, had a strong showing: Elizabeth Cintron (RSD), Monica Fleishman (TASD), Luz Galarza (RSD), Robin Krick (ASD), Arsenio Melendez (RSD), John Micka (TASD), Elsie Nieves (RSD), Luz Ruiz (RSD), Felix Santiago (RSD), Jeffery Shaffer (RSD), Jeremy Tinnin (TASD), Lesly Torres (RSD), Charlie Weaver (MSD), and Erica Wolf (RSD).

Charlie Weaver (5th place) and Erica Wolf (9th place) placed in the top 10 in the county, moving them forward to the state competition at Penn State Middle School on Friday, June 22, and Saturday, June 23. State competitors will take a written exam on Friday, June 22, before navigating the 13-obstacle driving course on Saturday, June 23. We wish Charlie and Erica the best of luck!
